CSA 2010 and Its Effects on the Transportation Industry and YOU!

CSA 2010 BASICS

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration “FMCSA” has launched CSA 2010 to reduce crashes by enabling its state partners to more effectively target the safety problems of motor carriers and their drivers. While safety advocates have hailed it as a step in the right direction the industry’s reaction is guarded.  Some refer to it as a “Game Changer” while others state that it could be the most damaging regulation to affect the trucking industry.   Industry experts predict that between 100,000 and 200,000 drivers could lose their jobs due to poor safety performance.  A significant number of non-compliant carriers could also suffer a similar fate if they do not change the way they do business. Organizations that typically were not exposed to FMCSA safety interventions are now exposed and need to be reacting to the latest CSA 2010 initiatives.

• In November “FMCSA” is launching its CSA 2010 “New Interventions Program” designed to “compel” motor carrier safety compliance.

• In December “FMCSA” will provide access to the general public i.e. shippers, lawyers, etc., to a motor carriers “Safety Scores”.

Motor carriers that have not already started reviewing their scores and implementing corrective actions need to do so immediately or they will suffer the consequences.
